Jacksonville, Ill. (July 24, 2022) – MOWA Sprint Cars return to Jacksonville Speedway this Friday for a $3,000 to win event. POWRi Midgets will run for a $2,000 to win top prize, 305 Sprint Cars and DIRTcar UMP Modifieds fill out the card.
When the MOWA Sprint Cars were at Jacksonville in June, the night was a tribute to the Northrop family – a family who has fielded a sprint car around the Midwest for a number of years. This weekend, we are excited to pay tribute to the Standridge family. There aren’t many other names synonymous with Jacksonville Speedway and auto racing other than Standridge.
The Morrow Brothers Ford MOWA Sprint Cars are back for their first of two nights of racing action this weekend, following up with a $2,000 to win event on Saturday at Macon Speedway. Returning to Jacksonville for the first time since June, fans are in for an exciting night of wheel-to-wheel action. The second half of the season is officially underway and points have resumed for the series. Cory Bruns, of Lincoln, Illinois sits atop the MOWA Points, only 20 points ahead of Jacob Patton. Paul Nienhiser and Jeremy Standridge are tied for third, only 45 points behind Bruns and 410 Sprint Car Rookie, Will Armitage, sits in fifth. Jake Neuman of New Berlin, Illinois is the most recent winner with the series at Jacksonville, scoring the win back on June 10.
The POWRi National Midget League shifts their focus to Jacksonville next Friday as well. It is their first standalone event at the track in 2022, after a co-sanctioned event with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series in June, which saw Jade Avedisian visit victory lane, the first female to win a national midget event. Brenham Crouch, of Lubbock, Texas, who pilots an entry for Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports, is currently leading the National Points Standings for the POWRi Midget League. Cannon McIntosh, Taylor Reimer, Chase McDermand and Bryant Weideman are the remaining drivers in the top five. Midgets at Jacksonville, is a show in itself – and you will not want to miss out on this!
The 305 Sprint Cars, after a stellar event last Friday, which saw 16 year old Trevin Littleton hold off Paul Nienhiser for the victory, return to the ¼-mile bullring for more exciting wheel-to-wheel action that the fans will enjoy. Littleton raced high and low around the speedway to fend off challenges from Nienhiser, who always provides high quality entertainment to the fans whenever he is on the racing surface. We expect this weekend to be no different.
Lastly, the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds are in action again after a month-long hiatus. Brian Diveley, of Springfield, Illinois won the season opening event for the division, but not without controversy. A late race charge from Jared Thomas sent both drivers spinning in turn one, resulting in a caution that sent both drivers to the tail of the field. Diveley moved his way back to the front of the field in dominating fashion and ended his night in victory lane, a sight he is familiar with in trips to Jacksonville.
Admission for Friday’s event is $25 for adults, ages 11-18 are $5, with 10 and under FREE. Grandstand gates will open Friday at 5:30PM, with hot laps scheduled to begin at 6:15PM.
